-은 나머지

-은 나머지: As a Result Of… — Outcome After That Act

Pattern 나머지 「003」 after -(더)ㄴ: the result that comes from that prior situation.

Before this, make sure you know: -은 결과 , -은 , -아요 / -어요

How to form it

When Form Example
Verb / adjective + -(으)ㄴ 나머지 -(으)ㄴ 나머지 급한 나머지 / 기쁜 나머지 / 바쁜 나머지
With -던 -던 나머지 참던 나머지

-(으)ㄴ 나머지 means as a result of… / to such an extent that… — the outcome that follows from that act or state.

Why this is hard

It packages cause and heavy result in one noun frame. Learners treat it as soft because and miss the ‘left-over / to that degree’ colour: often too much of X leads to Y.

What it does

You name an excessive or decisive prior state, then the consequence.

너무 급한 나머지 실수를 했어요.
기쁜 나머지 소리를 질렀어요.
피곤한 나머지 일찍 잤어요.
걱정한 나머지 전화를 걸었어요.

Forms

Adnominal -(으)ㄴ + 나머지.

When not to use it

Do not use it for mild everyday because. Do not drop the adnominal and write 급하다 나머지. Do not treat it as pure time ‘the rest of’ without result.

Neighbours — and why they differ

FormWhy it is not this slot
-아서/어서Everyday so / because — lighter.
-은 결과As a result — report summary, less ‘excess’.
-기 때문에Because — cause without 나머지 colour.

Written and spoken both appear; the degree flavour is the clue. Mild reasons do not need this noun.

Classroom examples should keep the meaning concrete: one clear scene beats three vague glosses. If a neighbour form already says the same thing more lightly, prefer the lighter tool unless register demands this one.

Ask: am I saying ‘from that degree / leftover force of X, Y happened’? If yes, -(으)ㄴ 나머지. If you need soft because, use -아서/어서.

Do not confuse it with

Quick check

No sign-up, no score saved — just see if it stuck.

1. You were in such a rush that the leftover force of that haste spilled into a real mistake — not a mild everyday ‘because’. Which line carries that excess-into-outcome colour?

2. You need the forms-table shape of -(으)ㄴ 나머지 on 기쁘다 for ‘so glad that…’. Which line uses it?

3. Same rush, four result frames — you want leftover emotional force, not a cool written summary. Which line?
