-을 법하다

-을 법하다: Likely To… — A Reasonable Prediction

Auxiliary 법하다 「001」 after -(으)ㄹ: the situation is likely to be / happen.

Before this, make sure you know: -는 법이다 , -아요 / -어요

How to form it

When Form Example
Verb / adjective + -(으)ㄹ 법하다 -(으)ㄹ 법하다 올 법하다 / 알 법하다 / 비쌀 법하다

-을 법하다 means likely to… — a reasonable prediction.

Why this is hard

It sits near -을 것 같다 and -을 만하다. Learners mix ‘worth’ and ‘likely.’ 법하다 here is conjecture from how things usually go, not moral law.

What it does

You predict what seems reasonable to expect.

비가 올 법해요.
알고 있을 법해요.
늦을 법해요.
그 말이 맞을 법해요.

Forms

Prospective -을 + 법하다.

When not to use it

Do not use it as ‘worth doing’. Do not treat 법 as only courtroom law. Do not assert it as hard certainty.

Neighbours — and why they differ

FormWhy it is not this slot
-을 만하다Worth / decent — evaluation.
-을 것 같다Seems — broader soft guess.
-을 테다Will for sure — stronger expectation.

Weather, habits, and character guesses fit. Soften when you might be wrong.

Classroom examples should keep the meaning concrete: one clear scene beats three vague glosses. If a neighbour form already says the same thing more lightly, prefer the lighter tool unless register demands this one.

Keep the prediction modest when evidence is thin.

Ask: am I saying it’s reasonable to expect X? If yes, -을 법하다. If you mean worth doing, use -을 만하다.

Keep one concrete scene in examples; do not pad with conjugation lists or translation filler.

Do not confuse it with
