-을 테다

-을 테다: Will (For Sure) — Strong Expectation Or Will

Pattern with 터 「005」 after -(으)ㄹ: planned/expected/intended — often contracted 테다.

Before this, make sure you know: -을 법하다 , -아요 / -어요

How to form it

When Form Example
Full -(으)ㄹ 터이다 갈 터이다 / 할 터이다
Contracted -(으)ㄹ 테다 갈 테다 / 할 테야 / 할 테니까

-을 테다 marks a strong expectation about what follows — will (for sure)… from the speaker’s stance.

Why this is hard

It is stronger than soft -을 것 같다. Learners under-fire it as mild guess or over-fire it as destiny. Speaker conviction is the colour — often plan, warning, or reassurance.

What it does

You project what you expect to happen, with weight.

내일은 바쁠 거예요. — 바쁠 테니 일찍 자요.
알고 있을 테니까 말 안 했어요.
비가 올 테니 우산을 가져가요.
괜찮을 테니까 걱정 마세요.

Forms

-을 테다 and related -을 테니 / -을 테니까 reason frames are the classroom cluster.

When not to use it

Do not treat it as weak 것 같다 only. Do not use it for past completed report without expectation. Do not ignore the speaker-stance flavour.

Neighbours — and why they differ

FormWhy it is not this slot
-을 것 같다Softer seems / I think.
-을 법하다Likely — cooler prediction.
-을 테면If you are going to — condition on a plan.

Advice lines often ride -을 테니: because I expect X, do Y. Keep the expectation and the advice both visible.

Classroom examples should keep the meaning concrete: one clear scene beats three vague glosses. If a neighbour form already says the same thing more lightly, prefer the lighter tool unless register demands this one.

Ask: am I projecting a strong expectation? If yes, -을 테다. If you only soft-guess, use -을 것 같다.

Do not confuse it with

1. You are volunteering for the chore yourself so your friend can rest — firm speaker will, not a soft guess. Which line?

2. Which line uses the contracted classroom shape 할 테야 from the forms table?

3. Same stem 하다 — which states firm will, not ‘if that’s the plan’ or ‘will, but’?
