-는다던가1
-는다던가①: Is That the Order…? — Checking What You Were Told
Expression: is that the order…? — checking what you were told to do.
How to form it
| When | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Checking reported order | -는다던가 / -ㄴ다던가 | 간다던가 / 하라던가 / 오라던가 |
| As a check question | …던가? | 내일 오라던가? / 그걸 하라던가? |
-는다던가① checks an order you were told — is that what they said to do?
Not a vague rumour chat alone. Curriculum gloss: checking what you were told to do.
Why this is hard
-다던가 can sound like soft hearsay. This slot’s job is verifying an instruction: were you told to come? / to do that?
What it does
내일 오라던가?
그걸 하라던가?
여기로 가라던가?
먼저 하라던가?
The ask confirms a relayed command.
Forms
Command-quote shapes often appear: -라던가, and declarative -는다던가 in the same checking family.
When not to use it
Do not use it as bare soft rumour by default.
Do not use it as plain -는다고 report.
Do not invent it as a future soft maybe.
Neighbours — and why they differ
| Form | Why it is not this slot |
|---|---|
| -는다고 | Reports speech. |
| -던가① | Past experience ask. |
Ask: am I checking a told order? If yes, -는다던가①. If reporting, -는다고.
If English wants did they tell you to…?, you are here.
