-는 한이 있어도
-는 한이 있어도: Even If It Kills Me… — Any Cost
Expression: even if it kills me… — willing to pay any cost.
How to form it
| When | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Processive + 한이 있어도 | -는 한이 있어도 | 죽는 한이 있어도 / 망하는 한이 있어도 |
| With resolute sequel | …한이 있어도 … | 늦는 한이 있어도 끝낼게요 |
-는 한이 있어도 vows any cost — even if it kills me….
Extreme willingness package. Not soft -어도.
Why this is hard
Learners treat every even if as -어도. This package names the worst-case cost and still proceeds. It is dramatic on purpose.
What it does
죽는 한이 있어도 말할게요.
늦는 한이 있어도 끝낼게요.
망하는 한이 있어도 도전할게요.
벼락 맞는 한이 있어도 안 할래요.
Front = extreme cost. Back = what you still will / won’t do.
Forms
-는 한이 있어도 after a processive/adnominal act that names the cost.
Classroom favourites: 죽는 한이 있어도, 망하는 한이 있어도.
When not to use it
Do not use it for mild even-if — -어도.
Do not use it as a joke by default in careful workplaces.
Do not invent it as a soft planning tool. It is also different from -는 한 meaning as long as.
Neighbours — and why they differ
| Form | Why it is not this slot |
|---|---|
| -어도 | Everyday even-if. |
| -을지라도 | Formal concessive — different coat. |
Ask: am I vowing through extreme cost? If yes, -는 한이 있어도. If soft even-if, -어도.
If English wants even if it kills me / even if I go broke, you are here.
