-디①

-디①: Really Does… — Emphatic Stem Echo

Connective-like emphasis: really does… — stressing by echoing the stem (강조).

Before this, make sure you know: -지만 , -아요 / -어요

How to form it

When Form Example
Adjective / verb stem echo stem-디 + same stem (+ ending) 좋디좋다 / 크디크다 / 많디많다

-디① emphasises by echoing the stem — 좋디좋다, 크디크다.

Curriculum sense: 강조. The middle -디 is not a soft but; it is a hinge that doubles the stem for stress.

Why this is hard

It looks like a connective, so learners invent contrast readings. The job is degree stress through repetition. Neighbours like -지만 contrast; this slot intensifies.

Short adjectives dominate classroom examples. Stretching it onto every long verb phrase sounds odd.

What it does

좋디좋아요.
크디커요.
많디많아요.
멀디멀어요.

The stem returns after -디. The point is “really / thoroughly.”

Forms

stem + 디 + same stem (+ speech ending).

When not to use it

Do not use it as but — -지만.

Do not force it onto every intensifier slot; 아주 / 정말 often fit better in café talk.

Do not invent mismatched stems (좋디크다).

Neighbours — and why they differ

FormWhy it is not this slot
-지만But — contrast.
도Also / even — inclusion.

Ask: am I echoing the stem for stress? If yes, -디①. If contrast, stay with -지만.

Quick check

No sign-up, no score saved — just see if it stuck.

1. You stress that it is thoroughly good by echoing the stem, not by a mild adverb and not by contrasting.

2. You stress that there is a thorough lot of it, by repeating the stem. Not 아주, not a but.

3. You stress that it is thoroughly big, by echoing 크. Not the adverb 아주 and not a contrast.
