-을게요 vs -을 거예요: Promise, Not a Calendar
누가 시킬까요? 제가 시킬게요 promises them. 제가 시킬 거예요 is a plan. Do not hang 을게요 on a year nobody asked you to give.
Who is ordering
The server is waiting with a notepad. Someone at the table says 누가 시킬까요? They want one name right now, not just a weekend plan.
제가 시킬게요.
jega sikilgeyo — I’ll order.
을게요 is a promise aimed at the people in front of you. You are taking the next move so they do not have to.
Swap the ending.
제가 시킬 거예요.
jega sikil geoyeyo — I’m going to order.
That is a plan. It can be true. It does not do the volunteer work. The table asked for a person who will handle it now. 을 거예요 talks about your calendar. There is no separate grammar-hub id for this ending. It is not the written notice 할 것. Do not file a spoken plan under that wall command.
A trip nobody asked you to give
You already bought a ticket. A classmate asks what you are doing in April.
내일 부산에 갈 거예요 is the plan. 내일 부산에 갈게요 makes the trip a pledge to them. They did not ask you to go to Busan for their sake. That swap is the wrong line.
Cafe payment is the other direction. 카드로 할게요 promises the cashier the next move. 카드로 할 거예요 sounds like you are telling the air your method. The person holding the terminal asked you to choose. Give them 을게.
Do not borrow -겠- or 할 것
-겠- is judgement or a formal resolve. A forecast uses it. A promise across a table uses 을게. A Saturday already booked uses 을 거예요. The future lesson maps those three. This page only swaps the last two.
Do not end on both are fine. If a person is waiting for your next move, 을게요. If you are reporting a plan nobody requested as a favour, 을 거예요. Hang 을게요 on a year they did not ask for, and you have promised a gift they never opened. The missing hub page does not make those two endings synonyms.
Common questions
Is there a hub page for -을 거예요?
Not as its own slot. Sejong never gave it one. The plan stance is taught against -겠- on the [future](/posts/korean-future-tense/) lesson. This page will not invent a missing id.
카드로 할게요 at a cafe?
That is -을게: you are promising the next move to the person taking payment. It is not 카드로 할 거예요, which sounds like you are narrating a plan to yourself.
Can I promise with 을 거예요?
The listener may still hear a plan. If they asked you to do it, 을게요 is the answer that takes them as the addressee.
반말?
을게, 갈게, 할게. The 요 comes off. The job does not change. Still a promise to the person there, not a diary note.
