만 아니면

만 아니면: If It Weren't For — The One Obstacle

If it is not only that obstacle — counterfactual/condition: if it weren’t for N…

Before this, make sure you know: 만 , -으면 , 이/가 아니다 , -아요 / -어요

How to form it

When Form Example
After a noun N만 아니면 돈만 아니면 / 시간만 아니면 / 날씨만 아니면

만 아니면 points at the one blocker: everything else is fine — if it weren’t for money / time / weather….

Gloss: if it weren’t for — the one thing standing in the way. Chunk from 만 + 이/가 아니다 + the -면 condition family (-으면). Not a mystical particle — but fixed enough that courses teach it as one gloss.

What it does — nearly yes

The emotional shape is almost agreement. You are not listing many problems. You are naming the single thing that keeps the plan from going through.

시간만 아니면 갈게요.
돈만 아니면 예약할게요.
날씨만 아니면 완벽해요.
거리만 아니면 거기 살 거예요.

Travel planning lives here: price, reviews, distance — pick the one snag.

가격만 아니면 그 숙소로 할게요.
리뷰만 아니면 망설일 이유가 없어요.

English “if it weren’t for…” is usable. “Only” alone (만) is not the same speech act.

Why 만 alone is the wrong neighbour

FormJob
만only / limitation
N만 아니면if not for that one obstacle
plain 아니면if not (broader)
시간만 있어요. only time (odd/incomplete in many contexts)
시간만 아니면 가요. if time weren’t the issue, I’d go
시간 아니면 내일 해요. if not time, then tomorrow — different packing

만 narrows. 만 아니면 narrows and opens a conditional escape: remove that limit, and the rest is go.

Form and follow-through

Host is typically a noun (the obstacle):

돈만 아니면
시간만 아니면
*가지만 아니면 odd — need a nominal obstacle, not a bare verb stem

What follows is usually a willing or positive outcome: I’d go, I’d book, it would be perfect. The chunk sounds strange if the sequel is unrelated complaint.

When to use — and when to say something else

Use it when both sides share the sense that one factor is the snag.

Do not use it to mean “only N” without the conditional escape — that is 만.

Past regret (돈만 아니었으면…) is a related extension; learn the present planning frame first.

Practice rule: if you can replace the line with “aside from this one problem, yes,” N만 아니면 fits.

Do not confuse it with
